Outfit Snap: Very Parasol Day

Outfit Snap: Very Parasol Day

Although I still worked on Sunday, on Monday I did not! (Thanks to the national holiday~) This could mean only one thing–lolita style! My husband and I planned to spend the day together, and went out for crêpes. There is a particular crêpe restaurant that I prefer–the Icosium Kafe (sometimes also known as the Crêpe and Coffee Palace). We managed to get there just before it became very crowded, which was quite lucky~

At the Gate
I’m very glad that I finally got a picture under this arch! I’ve been wanting to have a picture taken while standing beneath it.

My husband picked my outfit on this day. When it comes down to it, if I’m dressing up “for” anyone, he is the target. Lolita fashion is mostly something I do for me, but I know that he has opinions and prefers certain dresses or outfits. Since I love him (we did get married, after all), I like to wear things that I know he likes. There’s something fun about impressing the person you like, even if they already like you. ♥

He had the Jewelry Jelly jumperskirt in mind, but since I had worn that so recently he quickly opted for this jumperskirt instead. I toyed with the idea of patterned socks at first, but white socks were his recommendation. With the white blouse, the white socks give the outfit a very “traditional” look. I think it puts the focus on the jumperskirt, which actually has a lot of detail despite seeming “plain” at first glance. ★ I’ll have to wear the Jewelry Jelly jumperskirt for him soon, though. He seems really fond of it!

Traditionally Pink
I tried to do a “cute” pose that isn’t my normal “look I’m standing here,” but I always remain kinda awkward.

The only thing I dislike about the Angelic☆School jumperskirt is the zipper! Lolita brands are notorious for their use of bad zippers, but this jumperskirt takes the cake! A lot of the zippers used in lolita garments are invisible zippers that just aren’t heavy-duty enough for the fabric involved. Typically a lolita garment has a lot of bulk at the waist seam, and that is where the zippers get stuck. Oftentimes they warp or just break, and need to be replaced. Sometimes it’s easier to fight with the zipper when the dress is flat, pull it on over my head, and adjust the back lacing.

I was also excited about a chance to wear my new shoes from Bodyline! I own very few pairs of shoes, but now I have one more pair! These were just a bit too big for me, so I hadn’t been able to wear them until I got some insoles to take up the extra space and keep my puny feet from sliding around. I think the sizing for the actual BABY, the Stars Shine Bright shoes might be slightly smaller, so I might be better off with a non-replica pair at some point.

New Parasol Present
I had a really hard time holding the parasol so that the pattern could be seen, because it is so flat. I’ll have to take a separate picture of the design later.

After we paused to taking pictures under the arched gate, an elderly gentleman sitting in his car beckoned me over. He told us that he lives nearby, which doesn’t surprise me very much because I’ve noticed him before, and he asked me where “the other girl” was. I think he’s jumbled all of my friends that come and go into one “extra” lolita! He complimented my “costume,” and then extended something out the window–a collapsed Chinese parasol–and said it was for me because it matched my dress.

I felt very awkward; I don’t like taking things from strangers, and particularly from elderly people because I have known some who like to give more gifts than they can sustain. I tried to decline, but he was very insistent. In the end, I accepted and thanked him profusely; I was too worried about offending him if I didn’t take it. It’s very nicely made, with painted pink and yellow roses on white fabric. I’ll have to put it to good use!

Outfit Snap: Polka Dots and Jewelry Jelly

No traveling or hard-work for me this weekend, so of course I wore lolita fashion~ Lately I’ve been thinking more frequently of and giving more consideration to the idea of wearing the style to work, but regardless of any future decisions, the weekends are mine to enjoy with fun clothes! This weekend coincided with the arrival of some new things–dresses, socks, and accessories that I had been awaiting for a little while. There’s always a lot of excitement for me about getting something new, so I tried to wear everything~

Wow, A Pink Alice
I love taking pictures outside. The sunlight, even at odd hours of the day, is so much better than the shadows in my house~

I love pink (obviously), polka-dots, Angelic Pretty, and bows–so this dress and I were off to a good start from the moment I spotted it on the website. I was very surprised to find out that a friend of mine had the dress and would be selling it, so by this series of coincidences I was able to purchase it~ My little sister owns the same dress in black with pink polka-dots; she found it while on her trip in Japan.

The dress comes with the choker, and I also purchased the socks at the same time. However, I think in the future I’ll wear different socks. These socks do match, but the bows on the back are a much darker, “dustier” pink that isn’t elsewhere on the dress. I suspect they’ll match a different dress I own that has these same colours.

Failing at Cute
The socks have pink polka-dot bows down the back! I love that extra detail.

I didn’t wear a hair accessory. My original idea was to pull my hair back at the sides and affix a polka-dot bow, but I couldn’t get the bows to stay in place. I had a friend over that same day, so I didn’t want to waste the time fussing with my hair instead of having fun with my guest. ♥ Due to the lack of hair accessory I feel that my outfit is a bit “unfinished,” but it was still fun to wear!

Alice and the Nono
This is my new doll of amazing doll-ness, who I opened on Friday. Just so excited that I wanted to share, even though it’s not a very flattering picture of me.

Saturday was one of those days with no plans, no events, and no errands. Quite honestly, I didn’t know what to do with myself! I flip-flopped between being very productive to keep from being totally bored and being so totally bored that I couldn’t even imagine being productive. I dressed up anyway, which at least added some sparkle to my day.

The version of the Jewelry Jelly jumperskirt that I own is incredibly comfortable. ♫ My little sister bought it on my behalf although I hadn’t asked her for it, and she sent me a message letting me know that she wasn’t sure if I’d really like it, but she had bought it because it was very cute and amazingly comfortable. I didn’t quite know what she meant, since I don’t find any of my clothes particularly uncomfortable. Then I saw it in person and tried it on.

Essentially, the jumperskirt is super comfortable because of the design. It has a fully-shirred back, no zipper, and isn’t high-waisted. The shirring across the back is nicely spaced, plus the elastic is not so tight that one feels squeezed, yet not so loose that the back hangs. It’s really nice! ♫ It’s actually a general “type” much like my red polka-dot jumperskirt, although the details of the design are totally different, which is similarly comfortable!

Pink Jewelry Jelly
This is pretty atypical for me as an outfit, but it’s still pink, pastel, and fluffy. I should have put my hands in front, so the wristcuffs could be seen. They’re so cute!

In general, I don’t wear jumperskirts without blouses. It’s not that I feel this is a lolita fashion “cardinal sin,” just that I like wearing blouses. I don’t like having my shoulders uncovered–it’s a quirk of mine. In non-lolita I rarely ever wear short sleeves unless I am indoors and among people I am at ease with–even though I’m not particularly self-conscious about my arms. (I particularly wear this infamous really ugly coat all the time because it keeps me covered, even on 90+°F days!) However, I really like the design of this jumperskirt–the thin straps with ruffles of lace made me want to wear it with a sort of “sundress” inspiration~ ★

Jewelry Parka Jelly
It almost looks like I’m holding the skirt, but I’m actually clenching my fists…not that I have a particular reason to do so.

I headed out to the library, so I threw on a hoodie that didn’t really match, just for some coverage. The socks are also from my little sister; I think they match pretty nicely. I don’t own much else that has pink and blue, but Jewelry Jelly is a very colourful design.

I also have the Jewelry Jelly wristcuffs, but I’m not quite sure how to wear them. I wore them on my wrists for most of the day, but it felt like jewelry–which I am terrible with. I can’t help fussing with them, and then I take them off and put them back on and take them off again and put them somewhere else and forget where I put them! I’d really like to wear the wristcuffs in my hair (like scrunchies), but I haven’t figured out a good way to do so. When I wrap them it bunches up the lace, and I don’t want to permanently alter them.

I did find some hair baubles in my collection that seem to fit with the design pretty well, though~ They’re multi-faceted pink heart “crystals.” If I could find star shapes of a similar nature, in either pink, blue, lavender, or mint, it would match even better! I’m going to be on the lookout.

Sneaky Cinnamalice
This is my “up to no good” face. …So basically my daily expression.

Although, honestly, my “hair accessory” for most of the day was a set of Cinnamoroll ears that my little sister brought back from Sanrio’s Puroland. Puroland is like Disneyland, just owned and operated by another company. My little sister adores Cinnamoroll (although probably not as much as I always seem to think when I buy random Cinnamoroll things to give to her), so she opted for his floppy puppy ears during her trip. They came into my possession upon her return, since my head is stupidly tiny and so is the headband.

I keep wearing them around the house, because it’s fun and I find them comfortable. However, I keep forgetting that I’m wearing them! I’ve almost walked out of the house more than once as a Cinnamalice…which would have been so embarrassing! (Yes, random ears are embarrassing even though I don’t think my clothes are! It’s just how my mind works~ n_~)

Outfit Snap: Saturday Tea

Outfit Snap: Saturday Tea

My weekend wasn’t as frilly as I generally prefer, because I did something else I am very fond of–I volunteered at the observatory~ ★ I love the observatory, but I’d been missing out on several sessions that were held on Saturdays, as it was nearly impossible for me to then get to work on time on Sunday. Thankfully, we’re back to Fridays, so I was able to go! However, the observatory is very dirty. It is a bad, bad place for frills. I sat down on something for a moment, and my rear was black for the rest of the night. Imagine the horror if that had been a beloved jumperskirt! ;_;

On Saturday, I attended a tea party with some close friends. I wore white since it had been a little while since I’ve worn my white dress~ (And also, a bit, in memory of the grime in the observatory, which this outfit would have never survived unscathed!)

I’ve worn this same outfit many times, but I try to vary it at least a little bit. I don’t want to wear exactly the same thing over and over again! It’s a bit of a challenge to mix things up and still be wearing all white, though!

White for Summer
I wore a cardigan for part of the day. It’s strange, but I like to keep my arms covered.

This time I wore my new white hairbow. I’ve actually owned a white hairbow for several years, but I never wear it because it stands up straight. It tends to look like it descended from space and landed on my head! This hairbow is much more suited to the ways I typically style my hair.

I wore a cardigan while outdoors. I didn’t bring my parasol (which was very, very silly of me), so I wore it to shade my arms. Somehow being mostly covered always makes me feel a little bit cooler in warm and sunny weather, although it’s sometimes entirely imagined. It was much too warm to wear it inside, though!

White Summer Dress
The sunlight was so bright that it was really difficult to keep my eyes open!

I’m still dreaming of a white bolero or parka to wear with this dress~ (Or maybe a white apron?) I really enjoy trying new combinations, since I already like the style of the one-piece so much! ♥

Oh! I’m wearing my new petticoat in these pictures. It’s much poofier than before, isn’t it?

Outfit Snap: Dolpa NYC 4

Outfit Snap: Dolpa NYC 4

I wore lolita fashion to Doll’s Party in New York City 4. I figured that if I was going to take a vacation, I might as well enjoy it as much as I possibly could!

The day before I left I also dressed up, although I don’t care much for this outfit.

Red Zoo Outfit
I feel like everything about this is a bit awkward.

I wanted to wear my sailor collar cutsew, but I wanted to wear it in a combination other than the red jumperskirt I always wear it with. This is one of the only other things I own with red accents, so I thought I could combine the two. I’m not satisfied with this outfit, though. I don’t think there’s enough red in the skirt to balance with the very, very red cutsew. I’ll have to try something like this again after I give the items in my closet closer inspection. (I think that really I need a different skirt, and maybe different socks/shoes.)

When planning my outfits for the event over the weekend, I decided that I wanted to wear my favourite things. It was a little bit of a hard choice because I would be traveling, and lolita fashion isn’t exactly the best choice for that kind of thing. Additionally, I would be alone in a big city, and the style attracts a lot of attention–sometimes good, sometimes not. However, it makes me very happy, so I wanted to enjoy myself to the fullest!

Mad Hatter Williams
Everyone wanted to pose with the cutout of the limited-edition Williams as the Mad Hatter, myself included.

I wore Cherry Berry Bunny on the first day, since it’s my favourite print. ♥ Every time I see it in my closet I feel just as fluttery and happy as I did when I saw the first advertisement scans! I got a lot of shocked stares at the airport, but that’s okay. It made it really easy for the car service to find me! I wore this jumperskirt with a short-sleeved blouse, since I knew the weather would be warm, and pink and white striped socks with strawberries at the ankle.

Typically I prefer to wear this outfit with less-busy socks, so the print isn’t overwhelmed, but I do particularly like these socks. They were recommended to my little sister by the shop-girls when she purchased this jumperskirt. We both agree that they’re not a really fantastic or absolute “match,” but I think they’re very cute and adore them! It’s a good thing that Tea Party shoes are pretty comfortable; I did a lot of walking~

President Shigeta
I love this picture SO MUCH. I’m so happy I was able to be in a picture with Mr. Shigeta, president of the company! The silly stickers are because it was originally part of a group picture.

I loved the chance to wear this new hairbow. It has a little white pom-pon, which I think is sort of like the bunny tails on the jumperskirt’s print~

A few people at the event were amazed by my outfit and asked for pictures–it was fun! I also spotted several other lolita, although I didn’t get to talk to them very much~ It would have been nice to get a group picture, but I was too shy to ask! I was trying really hard to be sociable so I didn’t spent most of my time alone, but it was kind of overwhelming amidst so many people.

On the second day I wore the pink one-piece that my husband bought for me several years ago. It’s one of my favourites, and it has such sweet memories associated with it. It’s also surprisingly easy to pack, although it is a very big and poofy thing!

Day Two
I always think I look a bit demonic when I smile like this! It’s kind of scary!

I never really do anything “astonishing” with my coordinations. My style just isn’t that quirky or unique. I also got a chance to wear my favourite socks. They have a “lace-up” look up the back, with scallops and hearts. I adore this design so much that I own it in pink x white AND white x pink! If they had it in other colours that showed up in my wardrobe, I’d own those, too! They contrasted well with the white shoes; I was hoping to avoid packing another pair.

DSC09134
I really love this picture, but you can tell how frizzy my hair is~ Darn that hotel shampoo…

I wore this dress with another new hairbow. I’ve wanted one in this style for so long; I am so glad to have one! I tried a new hairstyle–down with two small braids in front. However, I’m going to have to try this again now that I’m at home. My hair gets very frizzy when I use hotel shampoo–it’s just too drying. I look like such a poof-ball that the braids can’t even be seen!

Overall, I had a great time! I’m going to write about all the fun I had, and share some pictures, too. I want to be able to remember this and look back on it some day!

Outfit Snap: Tartan and Roses

Outfit Snap: Tartan and Roses

This weekend was another successful “let’s wear lolita fashion to make the most of these expensive clothes before its too late and for whatever reason you can’t wear them anymore” attempt. ♥ I had arranged to leave the city to visit my mother over the weekend, so my Friday outfit was more casual. I don’t particularly like traveling out to the suburbs in more elaborate outfits, just in case I wind up on an extremely crowded train or brush up against the wall of a particularly filthy transit station.

I also wanted to dress in a way that wouldn’t seem too out of place for whatever my mother had in mind for that day. I knew I’d look far from “normal” regardless of specific pieces, but there’s a different kind of impact from wearing lots of pink and knee-socks and wearing a giant bow on ones head and a dress of luxurious fabric. My family doesn’t mind what I wear (not that I would change how I dress even if they did), but I want to enjoy my time with them instead of constantly explaining my outfit. It makes everyone a little bit uncomfortable, especially me!

The Big Tree
I wanted to get a better picture of the pattern on the socks, but that didn’t quite work out with this angle. I wound up cropping it to this.

I love the tartan skirt; I think the pattern is very casual. (Although I have no delusions about the fact that it is still a poofy plaid pink skirt~) I wore it with a cardigan and camisole instead of a blouse, and plain pink knee socks. I chose to not wear lace-topped knee socks because I find that knee socks really trigger people–particularly when lace is involved. It’s something that people seem to fixate on, so when I’m hoping to blend in just a bit I try to avoid knee socks or at least avoid lace. I also wore these socks because they’re socks my mother purchased for me at the BABY, the Stars Shine Bright shop in Paris, and I was going to see her.

The attached pochette is another bonus of this skirt. It’s a handy place to keep my phone and bus pass while transferring onto trains. It’s also right in front of me, so I can keep an eye on things to avoid pick-pockets. Since it’s clipped right onto the skirt it is not as easy for someone to swipe as a purse; I’m sure it could be cut off of the skirt, but I think I would notice if someone was right in front of me. I don’t ever have anything valuable enough to steal–I don’t even carry an iPod–but I don’t expect thieves to know that so I like to be prepared just in case.

Moar Tartan
The entire outfit–I’ll never get tired of that attached pochette.

I wore little ribbon combs in low pigtails for my hair. I love these ribbons–they were a gift from my little sister–but they have red printing on pink ribbons. Sometimes it is difficult to find a way to match them, as I don’t really own too many things that combine pink and red. The pink of the skirt was dark enough to let them blend in.

The one thing I didn’t care for about the outfit was the shoes. I wanted to wear my sparkly sneakers, but I didn’t want to pack another pair of shoes for the rest of the weekend. Now I wish I had, because I didn’t prefer those pink shoes with my second outfit either! I would have been better off with sneakers for one day and nice shoes for the other. It’s something to keep in mind next time.

Monsieur Lait ♥
Monsieur Lait came with–he took up so much space in the tiny car I drove that my husband had to sit with the bear on his lap! It was funny~

The next day I went to a birthday tea party. Since it was a lolita fashion event and a more formal event than usual, I wanted to wear something elegant. I decided to wear my Cherry Bouquet one-piece because I don’t wear it as often as I’d like to, but I love the illustrations and the large sleeves. The bell-shaped sleeves are very old-fashioned, but they’re also quite feminine and the drape is rather pretty. I think it has a romantic feeling~

I was hoping to aim for a kind of floral, summer romance instead of cookies, sparkles, and energy. It matched well with the venue, because the tea house combine a rustic forest touch with beautiful flowers and antiques. It truly deserves it’s name–I felt like I was in a cottage from a fairy tale, even though it was in what would have otherwise been a retail storefront!

Cherry Rose Bouquet
The birthday girl’s boyfriend was kind enough to take this picture for me of my entire outfit.

Looking back, I think next time I will wear another pair of shoes. I usually like the pink shoes with this dress, but I also usually wear white socks. I chose pink socks because these have a white rose pattern, and I wanted to keep to a theme of flowers. However, they blend in with the shoes, which I am not terribly fond of. I think I’d prefer to wear this with white or brown shoes–next time I’ll try it and see.

Outfit Snap: Lolita Day

Outfit Snap: Lolita Day

My original intention was to put a lot of effort into my outfit for International Lolita Day. I stayed up very late the night before brewing tea to bring to the picnic and painting my nails, so that those activities wouldn’t eat up too much time the next morning. Although I haven’t yet attempted nail art, I have been experimenting with the different shades of nail polish that I own.

I have a lot of skin allergies, so makeup is usually off-limits for me. Thankfully, I’m not allergic to nail polish–and because of that I wear it all the time! If I can’t wear sparkly eye shadow, at least I can have sparkly fingertips~ It makes me feel extra-girly to have my nails painted, and I prefer to do it myself rather than spend money at a nail salon. The other day I bought an iridescent pearl polish, so I layered it over a darker pink that I own which always seems a little bit too “blue” to match my lolita outfits. The pearl softened and lightened the pink, while adding a metallic shimmer. ♥ I was very pleased! I want to get some tiny rhinestones or pearls to add as little decorations next time.

Rainy-Day Alice
Why look, a pink Alice! Not very shocking, honestly.

Despite all this planning, I didn’t wear anything really interesting on Lolita Day. The weather was rumored to thunderstorm, and it was raining when we left the house, so I opted for an outfit that I knew to be colourfast and easily cleaned. (And I pulled my hair back to try to keep the humidity from playing with it, but I wasn’t really very successful at that…)

I wasn’t disappointed, though~ I don’t dislike any of the clothing that I own, or I wouldn’t own it! The Angelic☆School series was one of my dreams when I started wearing lolita fashion, and I’m certainly not sick of it yet! I can’t wait until my sister and I can twin with our jumperskirts, but that wasn’t fated to be on Lolita Day since she is currently traveling in Japan. I paired it simply, with a white blouse, pink bows, white socks, and pink shoes. Mallow accompanied me, as he’s easier to protect from rain than Monsieur Lait and easier to clean.

Near the Polar Bear
You can see the pattern of my socks much better in this picture, although not at such a tiny size~

I hadn’t worn the socks before–they were a gift from my little sister. They’re adorable cupcake socks from Metamorphose~ I love cupcakes, pink, and glitter. The socks have all three. It’s an irresistible combination for me! I’ve never worn over-the-knee socks with lolita before, and it was kind of strange. My legs are scrawny and I’m not terribly tall, so they ended several inches above my knees and looked like tights. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I think I prefer knee socks~

I tried to put some extra effort into my coordination by actually wearing makeup on Lolita Day, despite my allergies. However, I’m not very skilled at doing so, so I’m not sure it really made a difference at all! And it made me terribly uncomfortable. I probably won’t do it again for quite a while; it’s not really worth the itchiness and post-makeup-rash. (Which, thankfully there’s no-one in the office to see on Sunday~) Getting to come home and wash my face felt wonderful at the end of the day~

Outfit Snap: Pink for Luck

Outfit Snap: Pink for Luck

Experimentation and innovation can be fun, but honestly I’m most at ease just being me the way I am. Thus I tend to wear and purchase items within one sub-style of lolita fashion (sweet) and typically one colour (pink). Left to my own free reign, I’ll just wear my favourites over and over–and I don’t think there’s really anything wrong with that. I want to get the maximum enjoyment out of the things I own, especially when they’re harder to acquire and costlier.

Without Sunglasses
This picture is very shadowy thanks to the early morning sunlight being so intense! I should have faced into the sunlight, but then I couldn’t keep my eyes open.

Saturday I attended a casually-arranged shopping trip meetup. I decided to wear my favourite pink one-piece, because I like to particularly wear pink when meeting new lolita. I think of it like a good luck charm! It’s also a good choice on days that I don’t plan on leisurely getting ready for the day, because I know what I like to wear with it; putting together a quick coordination is easy.

I also like wearing this dress because my husband likes it. It was a surprise gift from him for me during a time when I didn’t have the money to buy anything, so it has a lot of sweet memories attached to it as a result of his thoughtfulness~ ♥ It’s also incredibly comfortable and has a hidden pocket. I love garments with hidden pockets at the side seams–it’s the perfect place to keep my phone and bus pass so that I don’t have to fumble around for them in a purse.

Among Flowers
A cardigan or parka is handy on days that can’t seem to make up their mind between sunny or chilly.

The weather was very bright and sunny, but also breezy, so I wore a cardigan for most of the day. I would have preferred to bring a parasol to shade me from the sun and simply deal with chillier moments, but I decided against it. It turned out to be a much better choice, because the farmer’s market was so crowded that it would have been very impolite of me to be carrying an open parasol. I might have poked someone’s eye out accidentally!

Outfit Snap: Sweet Pink Again

Outfit Snap: Sweet Pink Again

I’m back into the swing of things and very much enjoying it! I only wish I could wear lolita fashion more frequently. I found myself thinking just the other day that I won’t be able to do a week-long challenge like I’ve tried in the past, because now I have a job that doesn’t schedule me week-to-week. The chance of having a whole week to myself is very unlikely, since I’d have to request it off…and my time off doesn’t seem to accrue fast enough! (Although I’d presume that it does.) So I don’t want to waste my weekends~

Sunglasses Silliness
These sunglasses look amazingly silly, but I love them! They really do a good job of blocking the sunlight, too~

I’ve got a new pair of sunglasses! They’re pink heart-shaped sunglasses! ♥ I’ve wanted a pair since I was very young, when I first saw the video box for Stanley Kubrick’s Lolita in a rental store. I’d been spying them on Fred Flare, so I finally bought them. When they first arrived and I tried them on, I almost returned them. I thought they were too overwhelming, but I’m glad I kept them because I’ve really warmed up to them! I don’t like not having sunglasses on such bright days.

On the whole, my outfits don’t fit the current trends. I’m not much for wigs or big hair, crazy neon colours, or 80s toy inspiration like that from fairy kei. I have a soft spot for the more subdued coordinations that were popular when I started reading Gothic & Lolita Bible magazines and browsing the online shopping section of the brand-name websites. I love pastel pink, lace, and ribbons! That’s why I love this jumperskirt–for the pink, lace, and ribbons.

Normal Pink Alice
My hair seemed to be behaving pretty well today. Maybe the wind wasn’t as bad as it can be sometimes~

I really wanted to wear a white hairbow, since I recently added one to my wardrobe, so I tried to add more white to the rest of my outfit to balance it out. I actually hadn’t planned on wearing the cardigan, but the weather wasn’t quite warm enough to go without. There was just a little bit of a chill, and I was determined to go out and get cream puffs today. I liked the outfit more without it, but I wore it most of the day.

Mallow accompanied me today, since I didn’t want to neglect him just because I now have an usakumya. He is much easier to ride the train with! Monsieur Lait almost needs his own seat, but Mallow barely takes up any space.

I’ll probably wear this coordination again sometime~ I really liked it! Maybe I’ll do so next when it’s warm enough that I don’t need the sweater.

Outfit Snap: Pink Weekend

Outfit Snap: Pink Weekend

To counteract the effects of not wearing lolita very much last weekend or the one before and due to the fact that my husband is out of town (something that tends to make me a bit of a grumpy-puff). I didn’t really have my heart set on a particular garment, and when I rustled through my closet nothing seemed to stand out. Then I caught sight of my pink glitter sneakers and knew what I wanted to wear~

This outfit is more on the casual side; a washing mishap with my pink cardigan made one of my ideas not possible to do at the moment, so I wore it with my pink cable-knit sweater and a white shirt. I suppose that’s the Alice-fied “casual” autopilot. I loved getting to wear my super-puffy ruffled lace knee socks, but they kept falling down my scrawny legs. ;_; Going to have to fix them–sock glue and ribbons have already been suggested.

I didn’t realize my skirt was lop-sided until I uploaded the picture! Oh well! XD My skirts always slide around during the day, but I don’t always remember to adjust them back to the way they ought to be. I really wish I had a pink tartan beret to match this skirt! (That would be awesome~)

Lopsided Tartan

On Saturday I opted for something less casual, since I was going out to lunch at my favourite bakery & café~ I settled on my Angelic☆School jumperskirt. The only problem with this is that this jumperskirt has a zipper problem; my little sister owns it in the white and black colourway and it happens to her dress as much as or more often than it happens to mine–the zipper sticks at the waist. The Japanese lolita brands tend to use a certain type of invisible zipper that isn’t very strong, and it has a hard time at the waist seam due to the layers of fabric and lining being joined in that area. That day I just could not get the zipper to pass that spot, and due to the zipper’s side location my arms were getting more and more tired every time I twisted around to attempt it. x_x

So I untied the ribbon lacing in the back, forced the zipper while the jumperskirt was flat and not being worn, and slid it over my head. Unfortunately, I couldn’t adjust the lacing after that, so I threw on a pink sweater and hurried out the door. All of the time I had wasted while tussling with my dress had made me a few minutes late! @_@ Darn! I arrived before my friends did, as they were also running late, but I was really worried as I headed over there!

Simple School

I stuck the “county fair”-type badge from the jumperskirt on my sweater’s kangaroo pocket, so it could at least kind of pretend to not look as sloppy. Luckily one of my friends was able to re-tie the lacing before we went in for lunch–we looked pretty silly standing outside, though! n_n

I wore my hair in braids, partially because I thought it would be cute and partially because I wanted it out of my way~ I tied little pink jeweled hearts at the ends; I found some very cute hair baubles a few weeks ago at a little Japanese import shop near Maxwell Street~ I want to wear them more often! I did purchase some new pink hairbows (as I actually only have one and it doesn’t always match everything), but the exchange rate has gotten very bad recently. I don’t want to have them shipped to me until it recovers at least a little bit~

Usakumya Huggles

Monsieur Lait accompanied me for most of the day. I almost brought Mallow, but he doesn’t quite fit my camera and did want to take some pictures. In the end I didn’t get any in the café, though! I completely forgot I was going to take some. u_u

Bleeding Hearts

My husband was very excited about St. George’s Day this Friday, so he requested that I wear red. (There was also a request to slay a dragon, but that was ultimately not to be.) I didn’t mind a chance to wear my sailor cutsew~ I’m a huuuuuuuuuge fan of Sailor Moon, so I have a very intense weakness for sailor collars. And huge bows. As this cutsew combines both of those things, I absolutely love it! I hope that some day I can own it in pink~ ♥ I’d have more opportunities to wear it.

I wore it with my red jumperskirt, so overall it was a very, very red outfit. Cherry socks, too, because I love them! Metamorphose always makes such wonderful socks. I just wish their shade of pink matched Angelic Pretty‘s pink–it’s always a little bit darker or “duskier.”

A Red Sailor

In my continuing quest to not always wear my hair the same, I came up with a new style. I like trying to copy Sailor Moon’s hairstyle (because, as mentioned previously, I really like Sailor Moon), but there are many different opinions on what is the “correct” way to do the style. Some think it’s a knot at the top of the ponytail, others a wrap-around of a different section, and still others a bun. I’m sure there are probably more theories I am neglecting to mention~ The knot method requires the most hair, so it is somewhat difficult to do correctly without having itty-bitty pigtails. I tried the knot method with “half” pigtails, because my hair is very thick. I was very pleased with the result~

It doesn’t look anything like the hairstyle from the series, but it is quite cute. Even better, I can hold the knots in place with only one hairpin! Whenever I try more elaborate styles that involve many hairpins, it’s such a hassle to take them all out at the end of the day. Inevitably I miss one, and it stabs me when I lay down to sleep. ;_; It’s much harder to lose a single hairpin. I’ll definitely wear my hair this way again.

I dressed up on Saturday, as well, but… it didn’t really last. I couldn’t get my hair to cooperate with what I had intended, and the constant touching and brushing as I tried again and again just made it frizzier and frizzier. I finally gave up and settled on something else, but the damage was already done, and there wasn’t time to wash and condition my hair again to get it under control. When I tried to add hair accessories, they just wouldn’t stay in place! @_@ I’d move, and the bows would flop right off.

Creepy Alice Ghost

I was already a little bit on the less-than-cheery side of things because my husband was leaving for the weekend. Unfortunately, I let the little things get to me. When we stepped outside to take some pictures, I got frightened by a passerby (although they did absolutely nothing), and bolted back indoors. We tried to take a few quick pictures anyway, but I was completely spooked and it didn’t end well. It’s too bad, but sometimes things happen.

Overall it wasn’t a bad day, although it definitely felt like it for a while. My mother and stepfather surprised me by coming into the city and taking me to dinner. And, honestly, it’s hard to be in a terribly bad mood when you’ve received an usakumya to cuddle. ♥
